Do I need a credit card to rent a car?

Yes, it is mandatory to have a credit card to rent a car.
By mutual agreement with all Portuguese car rental companies, it is essential to present a credit card when renting a vehicle.
We only accept credit cards.
Prepaid cards, virtual credit cards, or debit cards are not accepted.

Reason:

  • Since you are renting a vehicle, which is a movable asset, the rental company requires a guarantee and a commitment that the car will be returned in the same condition as it was delivered.
  • Negligence
  • Electronic tolls
  • Road fines
  • Fuel shortages/replacement
  • Etc.

Can I rent a car anywhere in Portugal?

We deliver and pick up vehicles throughout the Algarve and at the cities and airports of Lisbon and Faro.

What is the minimum age to rent a car in Portugal?

The minimum age to rent a car in Portugal is 21 years old. There is an additional charge of €5 per day for drivers up to 24 years old.
However, regardless of the driver's age, they must have held a valid driving licence for at least one year.

How does the Via Verde service work?

This is a mandatory service that covers all national tolls, bridges, and car parks at airports.
The service costs €1.85 per day, with a maximum charge of €18.50 per rental month. The final charges will be calculated a few days after the vehicle is returned. Tolls will be charged to the credit card provided. However, if you did not use the Via Verde service, you will be fully refunded.

Can I take the car into Spain?

Cars can be taken into Spain, but an additional insurance (Green Card for Spain) needs to be purchased. This additional insurance activates travel assistance outside of Portugal. All vehicles come with CDW insurance. Customers can also purchase Super CDW to eliminate the deductible (reduce it to zero). This removes the renter's liability for breakdowns and damages. However, tyres, lost keys, fuel errors, clutch, and gearbox are not included.

What should I do in case of an accident or breakdown?

In case of an accident, you should immediately contact the authorities.

What is the extra cost if I rent a car in Lisbon but return it in the Algarve?

One-way rentals between Lisbon and the Algarve will incur a charge of €100, but only if the rental period is less than 7 days.

Fuel Policy

You should return the vehicle with the same level of fuel it had when it was delivered at the start of the rental. If you return the car with less fuel than when you received it, you will be charged for the difference.
